The scientific quarterly “SHYGYS” (ORIENT) is a joint project of the Institute of Oriental Studies and editing-publishing centre “Daik-Press”, which comes out since January 2004 in 5 languages – Kazakh, Russian, English, French and German. Chief Editor of the Journal is Prof. M.Kh. Abusseitova, Deputy Chief Editor is Prof. G.M. Mendikulova.

At present, the journal has got the international registration in Paris, the International Certificate at the World Orientalists Congress, and obtained recognition in the near and far abroad.

The journal publishes materials of the latest Orientalist researches of domestic and foreign scientists in the following main fields:
- Oriental countries: History and Culture.
- Study of the deep historical-cultural stratums in the system of interrelations of Oriental civilizations.
- Study of historical evolution of Kazakhstan’s civilization contacts with the Oriental countries.
- Religions of the Orient. Interaction of various religious systems in the Oriental countries.
- The role of Islam and its influence on Central Asia.
- Oriental written sources on Kazakhstan’s historical and cultural heritage.
- Socio-economic and political development of modern Oriental countries.
- Analysis of present day geo-cultural, geo-economic and geo-political position of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the civilization structure of Orient.
- Other relevant issues.

The publications of scientific researches of the leading domestic and foreign scientists (including these from CIS countries, USA, China, France, Switzerland, Japan and other countries) dealing with study of historical and cultural heritage of Kazakhstani peoples take special place in the journal.
